Hangzhou, China, November 22, 2024 – Experts gathered during a side event at the 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) in Wuzhen to discuss the latest trends in global governance for AI, cybersecurity, and IoT. The panel, hosted by the Research Center for Global Cyberspace Governance (RCGCG), focused on the challenges emerging technologies pose to global regulatory frameworks and the need for stronger international collaboration.
The event brought together leaders from academia, government, and industry to share insights on the latest developments in AI and cybersecurity regulations. Participants included experts from the Ecole Polytechnique, Albright Stonebridge Group, the Leiden University, the Amsterdam University, and the Shanghai Association of AI and Social Development.
The first session of the forum addressed the complexities surrounding AI governance. As AI technologies continue to evolve rapidly, experts explored both the transformative opportunities and potential risks posed by unregulated AI deployment. Panelists discussed the ethical challenges, such as data privacy and transparency, and the necessity for comprehensive regulation to ensure accountability. The discussion also stressed the importance of developing international regulatory standards to manage AI’s global impact.
The second session focused on cybersecurity governance in a hyper-connected world. Experts analyzed the latest trends in global cybersecurity regulations, including the challenges of implementing international data protection laws and the rising concerns around supply chain security. Discussions highlighted the urgent need for governments, tech companies, and international organizations to work together to create resilient digital ecosystems and to ensure cybersecurity strategies align with national security interests.
The forum concluded with a call for greater international collaboration in developing governance frameworks for emerging technologies. Professor Lu Chuanying, Director of RCGCG, wrapped up the event by emphasizing the need for ongoing dialogue: “By sharing insights and collaborating, we can build responsible frameworks that not only address today’s challenges but anticipate the risks of tomorrow.”
